The Carbon County Museum, open year round, tells the stories of the region and its communities. It interprets the history of the region, including the vast Native American influence, the coming of the railroad, the outlaws of the Old West, and the ranchers who continue to work the area.
Near Encampment & Riverside, Wyoming these bowl-shaped rock formations become natural bathtubs when filled with rain water. From the trailhead off of Blackhall Mountain Road, it's a 1.5 mile round-trip hike to the tubs.
I had driven the scenic byway between Laramie and Rawlins, Wyoming before and knew that spending a few nights somewhere in between was a must. Surrounded by the Medicine Bow National Forest, I knew that Saratoga would be the perfect destination. Eliza and I headed out early, left the traffic and city behind for the mountains with our swimsuits and fly rods in tow.

November 9, 2021—Carbon County—Carbon County Visitors’ Council is excited to celebrate the Anniversary of the Continental Divide Trail Designation. “Outdoor recreation is as important to Americans today as it was back in 1925 when Benton MacKaye, father of the Appalachian Trail, cast his vision of the first formed trail,” said Leslie Jefferson, CEO, CCVC.
The 2023 Photo Contest was launched last winter, and all entries were due by September 30th, 2023. At the October 2023 CCVC dba Discover Carbon County Wyoming Board of Directors judged a total of 43 photo entries.
Just because you can't visit Carbon County, Wyoming doesn't mean you can't enjoy our wide-open spaces, western charm and scenic views.
The fossil cabins is located on US Route 30/287 around 5 miles east of Medicine Bow in Carbon County, Wyoming. The cabin was built alongside the Lincoln Highway in 1932 by Thomas Boylan using dinosaur bones he collected from nearby Como Bluff.
The cabin is supposed to contain around 5,800 dino bones and has been called the "world's Oldest Building". It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places for being unique and for being directly related to the nation’s first transcontinental highway.
